Casting one’s mind back to last year’s festival brings up many a clouded memory. Amongst these, for plenty, will be the madness that ensued on the Saturday afternoon. Bathed in early afternoon sunshine the disco tent was, as far as we remember, a rather relaxed place to be. Enter Thee Bald Knobbers, a loose collection of masked men and women, who swiftly roused onlookers and loungers with a summoning of bells, reed instruments, percussion and chanting.
This formed the beginning of a procession into the woods, the Knobbers leading bemused and amused festival goers towards a clearing where, having already set up various instruments, the kinship Bolide were waiting. And so unfolded one of the unanimous festival highlights, a stomping, ritualistic, clattering and shimmering jam, oozing rapture and freedom under the trees and leaf dappled sunlight. It seemed at times like everyone at the festival had been entranced to witness this, like nothing else could steal the attention.
Evidently impressing those in charge, the upshot of this occurrence is what we present to you now: the immersive, interactive space we’ve named the Church of Chaos. Across the organising team we’ve hosted hundreds of shows, presenting the sounds of domestic and international bands from hugely contrasting worlds with a commitment to the more ‘out there’ end of the musical spectrum.
This document contains our plans, as confirmed as they can be (given the ‘pop-up’ nature of certain unmentioned attractions and spontaneous collaborations we are unable to predict); a proposal for what we can do with one tent, a dedicated crew of our cherished friends and close associates (most of whom perform in the scheduled acts below), and all the creative spirit in the universe. Alongside a programme of experimental, bizarre, beautiful and enrapturing music we’ll be presenting a few short films, workshops, hosting an alternative nightly ‘chill-out’ space and plenty more. Please take a read through and become quite certain that we’ve put together something really rather unique and special for Supernormal 2013.
